IDCOL is alternatively known as Infrastructure Development Company Limited. The company was established in 1997 by the government of Bangladesh. The company has awarded license as Non Bank Financial Institution (NBFIs) and the license has been taken from Bangladesh Bank in 1998. IDCOL primarily recognizes as one of the development organizations in Bangladesh supported by the government of Bangladesh. From the beginning of the company, they are playing a vital role in order to fulfill financing gaps for developing medium to large scale infrastructure as well as renewable energy projects throughout the country.
The company is working for the implementation of Solar Home Systems in Bangladesh. The project is financed by the
World Bank and IDCOL plans to set up of
4 million solar home systems by 2015 which would generate 105MW of power and near about 11 million people would come under the light of renewable energy. Infrastructure Development Company Limited is the leader of renewable energy initiative in Bangladesh. In addition, the implementation of World Bank project, IDCOL plans to introduce renewable energy systems that sustainable to the environment and cost saving to people such as solar irrigation pumps, biogas electricity, and green brick project in future.
